Barbershops

Each of our barbershops is a unique space where mentorship and personal care come together to support student development. Here’s a look at our locations:

Newburg Middle School

Our flagship barbershop at Newburg Middle School has been serving the community for over three years. It’s a place where students can receive a fresh haircut and engage in meaningful conversations with mentors who understand their struggles and aspirations.

West End School

(Under Construction)

Opening soon, our barbershop at the West End School will provide a much-needed space for students in this vibrant community. With the support of local leaders and educators, we’re building a place where young men and women can find guidance and support.

Tates Creek Middle School

Our newest location at Tates Creek Middle School is set to open this year. This barbershop will offer not only haircuts but also a range of programs aimed at fostering personal growth and academic success.

Mentorship

Mentorship Overview

The mentorship program within Sharp Futures barbershops is designed to provide holistic support to middle and high school students. Our mission is to create a safe, nurturing environment where students can receive guidance, build self-esteem, and develop essential life skills. Barbers serve as mentors, offering not only grooming services but also emotional and mental health support.

Key Components of the Mentorship Program

Safe and Welcoming Environment

Each barbershop is designed to be a safe haven where students feel comfortable and respected. The environment encourages open communication and trust between students and mentors.

One-on-One Mentorship

Barbers engage in one-on-one sessions with students during their visits. These sessions focus on building rapport, discussing personal challenges, and setting goals. Barbers provide individualized attention and support tailored to each student's needs.

Life Skills Development

Mentors teach essential life skills, such as communication, conflict resolution, time management, and financial literacy. These skills are crucial for personal development and future success.

Academic Support

Barbers monitor students' academic progress and provide tutoring or homework assistance when needed. They work closely with teachers and school administrators to ensure students receive the support they need to excel academically.

Mental Health Awareness

Mentors are trained to recognize signs of mental health issues and provide initial support. They use our mental health app to track students' well-being and connect them with professional counselors if necessary. Regular check-ins help monitor students' mental health and address any emerging issues.

Workshops and Seminars

Sharp Futures organizes workshops and seminars on various topics, including mental health, career planning, and personal development. These events feature guest speakers and professionals who provide valuable insights and inspiration.
