The Wishing Well Cohort is Sharp Futures’ flagship mentorship and enrichment program at the West End School— designed to help young men discover their purpose, sharpen their skills, and shape their futures.
Over eight transformative weeks, students dive into personal growth, creative exploration, and leadership development — guided by mentors who see their potential long before the world does.
At the Wishing Well, every young man learns to dream boldly, work intentionally, and become the best version of himself — for his family, his community, and his future.

C.J. Carter
Founder & Executive Director, Sharp FuturesA visionary leader and community builder, C.J. founded Sharp Futures with the belief that barbershops are more than places for haircuts — they’re spaces for transformation. Through initiatives like The Wishing Well, he’s creating a model for mentorship and workforce development that centers young men of color and equips them for success.
Albert Shumake
Director of Creative Arts & DesignAlbert Shumake is a passionate educator and music instructor who leads the Creative Arts & Design program at Sharp Futures. He inspires students to explore storytelling through music, art, and design—encouraging creativity as a path to confidence and self-expression. As a music teacher at the West End School, Albert blends art, mentorship, and culture to help young men discover their voices and the power of creative leadership.
Patrick Jackson
Director of Innovation & TechnologyPatrick Jackson is a skilled craftsman and architect who leads Sharp Futures’ 3D Innovation & Technology program. As the founder of Torchbearers United, he teaches students how to bring ideas to life through hands-on learning in design, engineering, and 3D printing. Patrick’s work empowers students to think creatively, solve problems, and explore career pathways in architecture, product design, and advanced manufacturing—bridging imagination with real-world innovation.
Amber Anthony
Director of Operations & StrategyAmber Anthony brings strong leadership and a deep commitment to youth empowerment as Sharp Futures’ Director of Operations & Strategy. With a background in education, community engagement, and organizational management, Amber ensures programs run efficiently and align with Sharp Futures’ mission. She plays a key role in building partnerships, managing logistics, and supporting long-term growth strategies that strengthen the organization’s impact across schools and communities.
